A word from the CEO
On 8/9 May, we welcomed 20 local government professionals on their Emerging Leaders journey which commenced with a two day workshop at the Executive Education Unit at the University of Adelaide.
When asked in the last minutes of the 2 day work shop how they felt, responses ranged from exhausted to excited to curious – just what we hope for! All the best to this new cohort for a fantastic year.
Speaking of local government talent, I’d like to acknowledge the 2012 South Australian Raymond West Scholarship recipient, Joe Hill from Alexandrina.
Joe receives a full National Congress registration valued at over $1500. Congratulations Joe! You can read about Joe’s experience at the National Congress on the LGMA Congress blog site.
Congratulations also go to Mark Withers who has been appointed to the LGMA National Executive. Mark already contributes an enormous amount of his time and expertise to the development of future local government leaders and is to be commended for taking on even more responsibility in this area. Thank you Mark.

Kim Ritter from the City of Salisbury recently won the 2012 Emerging Leader of the Y
ear award.
We chat with her about her role at Salisbury, and the award...
Firstly, some background…
What’s your current role, how long have you been doing it?
My current role is Manager Salisbury Recreation Precinct, I’ve been in this role for just over 1 year now.
Prior to this I was the Manager of the Gardens and St Jays Recreation Centres and have been with the City of Salisbury for 5 years now.
Currently I’ve got approximately 40 staff members.

General Manager People and Governance - Mr Stephen Faulkner
Stephen comes to us from the Cancer Council of SA where he is the General Manager Corporate Services and prior to this he was at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, employed in a variety of roles.
Stephen has extensive experience in HR, IT, Strategic Planning, Contract Management, Finance and Customer Service.
Stephen will commence with the City of Unley on 18 June.
General Manager Economic Development and Planning - Mr David Litchfield
David was the Director of Strategic Projects at the Department of Planning and Local Government, and prior to this he worked in the Department of trade and Economic Development and the Land Management Corporation.David's background is in economic development and planning.
David will commence with the City of Unley on 21 May.
City of Prospect:
Manager Community & Planning - Deb Richardson
Deb, formerly the Acting General Manager City Development at the City of Unley commences her new role with the City of Prospect on the 28th May.
Port Pirie Regional Council:
Manager Financial Services - Warren Reimann
Warren was formerly from City of Victor Harbor

LGMA (SA) is collaborating with Proteus Leadership Centres to bring you this interactive program. The program uses a practical approach to personal and professional development, combining theory and work related experiences and is designed to have an immediate impact on an individual and organisational level.
Participants will explore ways to reach solutions to the real issues faced in the workplace, whilst learning about their own leadership style and behaviours.
